Teacher's Duties
A teacher's duties in Thailand will generally be as follows with some variations depending upon the school.
The majority of teachers teach about 25 hours per week. You might also be asked to do overtime, but it is optional and you will be paid for it.
Your class will vary in size from 10 to 30 students. There might be some additional duties which you may be required to do such as :
Writing report cards
Supervising day-trips
Student concerts/plays
Supervising examinations
One-to-One tutoring of students
Report cards / parent-teacher meetings
Setting examinations on course work
You will usually team up with a Thai teaching assistant, who will assist you in translating but who should not do the teaching. Most of the teaching will not be translated by word, but rather an engaging lesson will be one with games and activities where students can learn the language with actions and flashcards rather than direct translation. This way the students can mimic your accent, which is after all, the main reason they have native English-speaking teachers rather than native Thai-speaking English teachers.
