Accommodation
Your school will provide you with rent-free accommodation. This can come in the form of a single studio apartment, a 2/3 bedroom apartment shared with other foreign teacher(s) at your school or a shared apartment in the case of couples or friends. A single studio apartment is by-and-large the norm.
Apartments are generally smaller than what is usually available in a teacher’s home country mainly because Korea has a high population density, so there is a higher demand on space and therefore smaller apartments are built. Teachers are expected to pay their utility bills of electricity, gas and internet if applicable. In some cases a refundable housing deposit is also payable usually 600,000 won which can be paid by installment.
The apartments provided tend to be rented within walking distance of the school, although sometimes a short bus ride may be required. They will be of a standard acceptable to westerner sensibilities and will be furnished with all modern conveniences.
An apartment will consist of the following items:
Western style bed
A western style toilet & shower
Gas or electric stove
Table & Chairs
Cooking utensils
Wardrobe TV & usually a VCR/DVD
Washing Machine
Refrigerator
An internet connection can easily be installed upon arrival
